Dear Colleagues,
I write today with a bit of a special format for these email updates… today, I’m glad to share the first instalment in our new monthly series: Amplifying Voices for Environmental and Climate Peacebuilding.
If this is your very first ECCP email, I encourage you to review the most recent “regular” edition here.
Escazu Ahora (Chile)
In Chile, communities and environmental defenders protect rivers, forests, wetlands and ecosystems essential for life. Their work cares for nature, strengthens citizen oversight and participation, preventing conflicts, and supports fairer decisions for the territories. Unfortunately, during 2025, 72 attacks against environmental defenders were recorded: more than three times as many as two years ago.
When those who speak out are threatened or ignored, trust and democracy are weakened.
Chile urgently needs to advance in protection mechanisms and ensure that communities are heard before making decisions that affect their lives, territories and environments.

And finally, we (the ECCP) are developing an agenda to guide learning for the remainder of the year and are interested to know what you want to learn about the ECCP. The goal is to learn about the ECCP itself rather than the broader field of environmental peacebuilding.
We’ve created a poll to collect some (very) quick feedback from you to inform the development of a Learning Agenda for our community. Please take 3 minutes to complete the poll here.
Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Annika
